Hello everyone,
Isaiah 53 describes Jesus’ sacrifice for us, and it says that through it all, he opened not His mouth. It then repeats for emphasis. Why? I have been shown two reasons; there are probably more. The first is this: if He would have protested, legally God would have had to intervene because He was innocent. God is the righteous judge of all the earth. He would have no choice, but then we would have to pay for our sins. So thank God Jesus did not open His mouth! Oh, how tempting it must have been! Just one ‘stop!’ would have shut it all down. People slapping Him, spitting on Him, ripping out His beard, shoving thorns into his skull, beating on him, stripping Him naked, mocking and ridiculing Him, and none of that had to do with the cross. If He were only dying for our sins, none of that was necessary. There had to be something more. The great exchange! His righteousness, peace, health, safety, blessing for our sin, fear, sickness, peril and curse. What a deal!
The second reason is longer, so I will share it tomorrow, Lord willing. I love y’all. Be blessed. Thanks be to God for this indescribable gift!
healed by His stripes,
Nancy Bass
